The Civil Rights Committee, chaired by Mari Newman, will host a CLE discussion on "Current Issues in LGBTQ Constitutional Rights" by Arash Jahanian from ACLU of Colorado.
This presentation will focus on current constitutional protections for LGBTQ individuals including the evolving standard under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment which one court recently applied to allow transgender students the right to use the restroom of the gender with which they identify. The presentation also will cover the contexts of law enforcement and corrections including the Eighth Amendment medical care requirement for gender transition services.
